FCSO Arrests 3 Career Criminals After Search Warrant in Overdose Death Investigation

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has made three arrests following a residential search warrant as part of an ongoing overdose death investigation that began in July.
On Aug. 6, the FCSO Special Investigations Unit, Major Case Unit, and SWAT team served the search warrant at 1 Roxbury Lane in Palm Coast. As SWAT deputies arrived at the residence, they observed one of the occupants, identified as Michael McDermott, 39, run inside the residence from the back patio towards the main bedroom. Deputies also noticed multiple occupants move from the living room to the main bedroom.
The SWAT team then breached the front door and secured four occupants without incident, including McDermott; Matthew Green, 38; and Kavin Price, 50.
During the search of the residence, detectives seized fentanyl and narcotics paraphernalia located in plain view throughout the house. Detectives also recovered multiple ripped, wet plastic bags in the shower. Detectives determined the bags’ location and condition, in conjunction with the occupants fleeing into the bedroom, to be consistent with an attempt to destroy evidence.
At the conclusion of the search, detectives arrested McDermott, Green, and Price for possession of fentanyl, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia, with McDermott also arrested for obstruction without violence. They were transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. Price was later released on a $6,500 bond. McDermott and Green are being held on $7,000 and $6,500 bonds, respectively. The fourth occupant was not arrested.
“This warrant started from an investigation into an overdose death, and we will continue that investigation until we can hold the poison peddler who caused that death accountable,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.

McDermott has been arrested 15 times previously in Flagler County, with numerous arrests for narcotics-related charges including possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of fentanyl, possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has also been arrested for kidnapping, grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, domestic battery, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement with disregard for the safety of persons or property, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, resisting a law enforcement officer with violence, and violation of probation. He has served one sentence in state prison.
Green has been arrested 13 times previously in Flagler County, with one narcotics-related arrest for sale of oxycodone. He has also been arrested for other charges including burglary of an occupied dwelling, robbery with a firearm, shoplifting, driving while license suspended, domestic battery, and violation of probation. He has served numerous sentences in state prison.
Price has been arrested eight times previously in Flagler County, with one narcotics-related arrest for possession of a controlled substance. He has also been arrested for other charges including unlicensed carrying of a firearm, failure to appear, and violation of probation. He has served one sentence in state prison.
“These dirtbag poison peddlers all have lengthy arrest records. It’s time they all go to prison,” Sheriff Staly added. “Now, they’re back in the Green Roof Inn where they belong, and they may be facing even more charges once we finish our homicide investigation.”

The death investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be added pending further investigation.
