BUNNELL, Fla. — Sheriff Rick Staly and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office are proud to announce the recipients of the Sheriff’s “Great Kid” Award for March 2026. Chief Deputy Joe Barile, Investigative Services Division Chief Agustin “Augie” Rodriguez, Youth Services Section Commander Jennifer Nawrocki, and School Resource Unit Sergeant Shane Meehan presented the awards, alongside school resource deputies and school officials, to three exceptional students at Flagler County schools.

“These students represent the very best of Flagler County,” said Sheriff Staly. “They lead with integrity, kindness, and determination — in the classroom, on the field, and in the way they treat others. We’re proud to recognize them as truly deserving of this award.”

The “Great Kid” Awards are presented each month during the school year to three students — one each in the elementary, middle, and high school levels — who respect their peers, help others, work hard in academics, and represent themselves and their school well. The recipients are nominated by SRDs and school employees.

Penelope McDonald, a 10th grader at Flagler Palm Coast High School, was recognized by her teachers as an exceptional student who exemplifies excellence both academically and athletically. As a dedicated IB scholar and a committed member of the soccer and lacrosse teams, McDonald approaches every challenge with determination, consistency, and a strong sense of purpose. She was described as a thoughtful young woman of integrity who demonstrates admirable values, strong character, and a positive attitude, and her teachers are proud to recognize her as a valued member of the FPC community.

Mia Hoeni, an 8th grader at Christ the King School, received recognition from her teachers for her willingness to help wherever she is needed. After school, Hoeni assists in her mother’s 3-year-old classroom with end-of-day duties, stays late to help middle school teachers in their classrooms, and was recently praised for serving as a 1st grade helper for field day and for assisting again with her mother’s class at the spring concert. In addition to her willingness to serve, she was described as respectful and kind to her peers and teachers and as someone who always has a genuine smile, and her teachers say they are lucky to have her as part of the school family.

Connelly Davis, a 5th grader at Rymfire Elementary School, was recognized by her teachers for consistently demonstrating perseverance, eagerness to learn, and determination in the face of challenges. Davis is described as a strong leader who sets a positive example for peers through hard work, responsibility, and a kind attitude, and as someone who takes pride in her work and always strives to do her best. Her teachers say she is a wonderful role model and truly deserving of the Flagler Sheriff’s Great Kid Award, and they are proud to have her as a member of Rymfire Elementary School.
