BUNNELL, Fla. — Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies made 13 arrests this past weekend between 6 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, and 6 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026. Deputies handled 699 calls for service and made 100 traffic stops.

Traffic Stop for an Expired Tag Leads to Drugs and Firearm Arrest

Deputies arrested a Palm Coast man Sunday evening after a routine traffic stop turned up marijuana, prescription pills, and a loaded gun.

While conducting proactive patrols near State Road 100 and McCormick Drive, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai for a traffic violation. As the deputy approached the car, he could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Neither the driver nor his passenger had a medical marijuana card. As deputies searched the car, the driver identified as Makih Simpson, 21, of Palm Coast, stated there was marijuana in the driver’s door and a handgun under his seat. Deputies found two used marijuana cigarettes and a loaded Glock 43x under the seat.

A backpack in the car contained even more marijuana divided among several bags and a grinder. In total, deputies located 161 grams of illegal marijuana. Also located inside the bag were two loose oxycodone pills. Simpson stated the pills were left over from a previous injury, but he no longer had a prescription for them.

“Narcotics and a loaded gun are a dangerous combination, and this guy had both,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “If you’re going to drive around Flagler County with a backpack full of dope and a gun under your seat, expect to see red and blue lights behind you and a trip to the Green Roof Inn.”

Deputies arrested Simpson for possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $2,500 bond.

Crash Leads to DUI Arrest of Ponte Vedra Man

Deputies were dispatched to State Road 100 at the Interstate 95 overpass, where a driver reported he had been rear-ended by a white van while stopped at the light. He asked deputies to check on the van’s driver, who he believed had been drinking.

The driver of the van, Jason Dall, 51, of Ponte Vedra, had an open Mike’s Hard Lemonade in the driver’s-side door, glassy, watery eyes, and the smelled of fruity alcohol. When he stepped out of the van, he was unsteady on his feet.

After deputies finished investigating the crash, Dall declined to answer questions, refused field sobriety exercises. At the jail, he also refused to provide a breath sample.

“If you are stupid enough to wash down your afternoon with a hard lemonade and then get in a car and rear-end another driver, don’t act surprised when your poor decisions lead to you being arrested,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “This drunk driver was lucky he did not hurt or kill someone or himself. Now this guy can sober up with some hard time at the Green Roof Inn.”
